18 Months and a Visit from Great Aunt Mary Fran

Great Aunt Mary Fran arrived on Thursday afternoon after a long drive from New Jersey. She decided to ignore our advice to stay on I95, and follow her GPS's directions. She got a lovely tour of Washington, D.C., and even got to experience rush-hour traffic. She said New York traffic pales in comparison...

Mary Fran and I took Sam to his 18 month check-up yesterday. The great news is that he weighs 24 lbs (the 30th percentile) and is 32 3/4 inches long (70th percentile). His head is in the 75th percentile, too. The bad news is that Sam didn't sleep at all Thursday night, and had a 101 degree fever at the doctor's office and a very snotty nose. He also started crying the minute the nurse touched him and didn't stop until we were in the car, which upset me very much (and the doctor, who told us to go to the ER if he didn't calm down in a few hours)! It turns out that it was just being in the doctor's office that upset him, since he was happy and back to playing basketball as soon as we got home. He certainly didn't act sick yesterday afternoon, even though he woke up from his nap with a 103.4 degree fever. He ate better than he eats when he's well, and he slept all night - 11.5 hrs - last night. He woke up with only a 100.7 degree temperature this morning, so hopefully we're on our way to a full recovery!

After breakfast, we decided to venture out to the zoo to take advantage of the sunny morning. We got there around 9:30 am, and managed to get a fabulous parking spot and to miss most of the crowds. We even saw the pandas!

Making friends with the bear.

Mary Fran just asked Sam: "Where's Momma?"

That's a lot of flamingos!

I'm not sick, Mom! I want to run!!!

Here are Sam and Grandma looking at elephants, while Grandma tries to figure out how she can get into the elephant enclosure with a vacuum so she can clean off that dirty elephant!
